TAKE A CHANCE on the Costa Rica Fundraiser!

 A group of 10 Vinton-Shellsburg students and two VS graduates are headed to Costa Rica for a Spanish Trip for 10 days in June.  These students have worked hard to pay for their trips to Costa Rica and are looking forward to spending time at a volcanic site, beach, ziplining through a Jungle, as well as visiting a coffee farm, having a meal with families from Costa Rica and learning about their culture.

Shellsburg Big Day July 20

Mark it on your calendars now! Shellsburg's Big Day event will be held on Saturday, July 20 with events beginning at 10:30 a.m. The day will be full of family fun jam-packed with tons of entertainment and activities for all ages. Celebrate Shellsburg's small-town living while enjoying its big personality!

Get Write On it, Writing Workshop Saturday April 6

A writing workshop with author J.L. Wilson will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Vinton Public Library located at 510 2nd Ave. in Vinton.J.L. Wilson is the pen name for Jean Wilson who grew up in Vinton, moved around the country quite a bit and then ended up back in Iowa. She began writing for publication in 2005 and now has 30+ books published with a small press through self-publishing.

Community Book Club: The Lotus Eaters

The Community Book Club will be held at the Vinton Public Library on April 13th at 9:15 a.m. The library is located at 510 2nd Ave. in Vinton. For questions, you can call 319-472-4208.The book entitled, "The Lotus Eaters" by Tatjana Soli is the book for this month. It is "A haunting world of war, betrayal, courage, obsession and love." Vinton Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 30 10:00 a.m.

The Vinton Kiwanis Club has invited the Easter Bunny to come to Kiwanis Park in Vinton on Saturday, March 30 at 10:00 a.m.Children ages 10 an under are welcome to join the fun. In case of inclement weather, the fun will take place at the Vinton Skate Center.

Easter Egg Hunt in Shellsburg POSTPONED to March 30

The Shellsburg Area Community Group has arranged with the Easter Bunny to drop off eggs at the Shellsburg City Park on Saturday, March 30th rather than this week as plannedChildren will be welcome to gather the eggs beginning at 10:00 a.m. Children 5th grade and younger are welcome to attend the hunt. Bring your own bag or basket!

Cedar-Mt. Auburn Fire Department Breakfast Saturday, March 30 7-10 a.m.

The Cedar-Mt. Auburn Fire Department will be holding its Annual Breakfast Fundraiser on Saturday, March 30 from 7-10:00 a.m. at the Mt. Auburn Cedar Hall (the former American Legion Hall). For a free offering the department will be providing scrambled eggs, pancakes, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy, sausage links, coffee, milk, and orange juice.

Books and Cooks April 6th, 10:00 a.m.

The Vinton Public Library will offer a Books and Cooks event at the library on Saturday, April 6th begnning at 10:00 a.m.Love books? Love to cook? The Butterflies of Iowa presentation on April 13 in Center Point

On Saturday, April 13, retired science teacher and co-author of “The Butterflies of Iowa,” Dennis Schlicht, will share a slide presentation on butterflies at the Center Point Heights senior living community, 800 Mustang Lane.
