On September 9, 2021 at approximately 09:22 am a Benton County Sheriff's Deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 7900 block of 16th Ave Dr. south of Luzerne. The Deputy located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop with that vehicle. The vehicle did not stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit went for several miles on gravel roads and reached speeds in excess of 80mph. The pursuit came to an end when the suspect vehicle ran a stop sign at 75th St. and 11th Ave. north of Belle Plaine and struck an SUV. The occupants of the SUV sustained minor injuries. The driver of the suspect vehicle was Kyle Bracy, 39, of Belle Plaine. Bracy was taken into custody and charged with Eluding resulting in bodily injury, Driving while barred, Reckless driving, Failure to display registration plate, Speeding, Failure to stop at a stop sign, and Failure to provide proof of insurance. The Belle Plaine Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Belle Plaine Ambulance and Belle Plaine Fire Department also responded and assisted in this incident.
