Carl Junior Edmonds, 88, died Tuesday, February 05, 2019 of liver cancer at the Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 8 at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton. Military Rites will be conducted at the church following the service by the Vinton American Legion Post #57 and the Iowa Military Funeral Honor Guard. Carl was born March 24, 1930 in Vinton, the son of Carl E. and Goldie Kisling Edmonds. He attended school in Dysart, graduating in 1949. On April 1, 1951 he married Patricia Horning in Garrison. Carl served his country in the United States Army in 1952 and 1953 in Korea during the Korean Conflict. After returning home, Carl and Pat began farming. Carl also held other jobs, such as welding for Perfex and working for many years as a maintenance manager for RC Management in Waterloo. Carl enjoyed many hobbies, including camping with his family, woodworking, dancing, bicycling and caring for his lawn. He was a faithful member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was also an active member of the Vinton American Legion. However, Carl’s greatest joy came from time spent with family and his many friends. He is survived by his children, Roger (LuAnn Geiken) Edmonds, Cedar Falls; Jerald Edmonds, Cedar Rapids, Sandi (Mike) Thoren, Vinton and Kevin (Jolene) Edmonds, Council Bluffs; brother, Donald (Shirley) Edmonds, Sussex, WI; sister, Betty Grove, New London, IA; three grandchildren, Amy (Paul) Anderson, JoDee Edmonds and Travis (Jayde) Edmonds; great granddaughter, Evelynn Edmonds and many relatives and friends who provided comfort and support during his illness. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pat, in 2000; sister, Mardene Reed and brother-in-law, Dick Grove. The family will direct memorials to the Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, Sisters of Mercy and the Cedar Valley Arboretum.
