Swim Meet at Cedar Rapids Washington Results

It was another night of record performances Tuesday at Cedar Rapids Washington. The Stormin’ Vikings swim team turned in another strong performance as they moved closer to the culmination of their season.  Swimming against the non-district teams of the larger MVC schools, the squad left their top relays and most of their top swimmers in exhibition status or in events other than their primary strokes.

Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest February 5 for ages 9-14

On Sunday, February 5th the Knights of Columbus is having a Free Throw Contest in Vinton.  The contest will take place at the Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School gym from 1-3 pm. Boys and Girls ages 9-14 are welcome to participate. 

Iowa Girls High School Basketball Rankings 1/19/23

Swim Senior Night

More records fell Thursday night at the pool in a dominating senior-night win for the Stormin’ Viking Swim team as the home team controlled the meet from the start.  Motivated by a narrow early season short-handed loss to Williamsburg – the team came out fired up and lead from start to finish in a 73-29 win. On the night the Stormin’ Vikings won 10 of 11 events and finished first and second in the final 6 events of the evening.

Storming Vikings set 26 New Season Best Times

Grinnell came to town Tuesday and the Storming Vikings met them with yet another strong performance in convincingly winning a dual meet 58-36.  Both squads were down a few kids due to illness or injury, but the Grinnell was without one of their top performers which certainly made the final score a bit more lopsided than the talent levels of the two squads would indicate.

Swim Meet at Waterloo

The holiday break hit at the right time for the Vinton-Shellsburg/CPU Stormin’ Vikes swim team.  Battling illness and injury the team limped to the break where it was able to get guys healthy and put in a lot of good work.  That work appears to be paying off as the team – following a strong effort against an outstanding Decorah team – traveled to Waterloo Saturday and turned in their best meet of the year.

VSHS Wrestling Cheer Junior Clinic

The Vinton-Shellsburg Wrestling Cheerleaders are having an exciting season supporting both the boy's and girl's Varsity wrestling teams. Fans and the community can show their support too.All K -8 grade guys and gals are encouraged to come help the cheerleaders support the teams by participating in the junior cheer clinic. Registration is now open! Participants will learn jumps, cheers, and chants and then showcase their new skills with the VSHS Wrestling Cheerleaders at the Varsity Wrestling meet on January 19th! Class 3A Girls' Basketball Rankings for January 6, 2023

The 2022-23 SIXTH Iowa Girls High School Basketball Rankings which are compiled by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union was released on Thursday, January 5, 2023.In the 3A Class, Estherville Lincoln Central is holding first place with a 7-0 Record. Benton Community is holding second with a 9-1 record. Center Point-Urbana is following in the 6th position with an 8-4 record and Vinton-Shellsburg is currently in 10th position with a 5-4 record.

Mr. and Ms. Wrestler of the Year - Area Wrestlers need your votes!

Once again, area students have been selected to compete for the annual Dan Gable Ms. and Mrs. Wrestler of the Year Awards. The awards are presented by Fareway Stores, Inc. and IAwrestle in coordination with the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association. Nominations are received from the high school coaches in all of three wrestling classes for the men and all classes are combined for the women's award.

Local Girls' Basketball teams ranked in the top 10

In the Class 3A schools, Benton Community is moving in on the first place slot with only Estherville-Lincoln Central in the way.  Estherville's record stands at 7-0, last week they were also ranked number one. Benton Community's record currently stands at 9-1 in second place, moving up from 3rd place last week. Center Point-Urbana is in 6th place moving up from 7th place last week with their record at 7-4.
