Sports : Steffen signs to play Volleyball at North Iowa Area Community College

For Becca Steffen it was an exciting first day in the next step of her life. Rebecca Steffen signed a scholarship to play Volleyball at North Iowa Area Community College. Becca grew up around volleyball, with her mom Kelly as her coach and her older sister played as well. She played organized volleyball with her classmates from 4th grade on and then starting playing club volleyball in sixth grade. Her 14U year she began to understand what it took to play at the next level. Travis Butler, her club coach that year, took the time to work with her individually to help her develop the skills needed to be able to play at a higher level as a setter. As she entered her freshman year of high school, Coach Ruess utilized her as both a setter and hitter where she learned to love hitting as much as setting. The last couple years of volleyball, she has worked with her current club coach, Rick Blackwell. Blackwell has helped her develop as a hitter and emphasized what it means to work as a team. "Becca's passion is genuine. We have never pushed her to put in the extra time, she loves it and she will do whatever it takes to be better for her team. We are so excited to see her at the next level and are very grateful to those who have helped her along the way!" said Kelly Steffen of her daughter. Coach Michelle Stepanek said of Becca, "Becca has played for me for 4 years since she was a freshman, she has lead the team in all hitting & setting categories the last two years. She was voted MVP by her teammates this season. Becca has been looking at colleges since early summer & coaches come to watch her play to see if she will fit with their program. Becca was a powerful & huge impact player for our team. She loves the sport & will give you all she has on the court." "We are very excited to have Becca join our team. We have high expectations for our players on and off the court so we are looking for the best people to do the work. We really believe she will come in and make an immediate impact on our program and be able to run a fast tempo offense.
