The ladies of Oak Grove Church began a project a couple of years ago making sleeping bags and quilts for homeless people.  They meet the third Saturday morning at 9 am to work on them.
Last winter they held an "all day sewing marathon" which was well attended and much progress was made! On September 19 they will be doing another all day meeting and wish to invite anyone interested to join.
In recent months another project has been added: mats made from plastic grocery bags which are  waterproof and also provide an extra layer of cushion for those sleeping on the floor or ground.
In all these projects, there is something anyone can do.  It takes a lot of preliminary work before the actual sewing takes place.
There are materials needed for these projects: old denim or upholstery fabric for the outer shell, used quilts, comforters, or blankets for the warm layer (the larger the better), large pieces of cotton for lining, and plastic grocery bags.
If you are interested in a day of fun, food, fellowship, and service, you are invited to join in at 9 am on Saturday, September 19 at Oak Grove church, rural Shellsburg.
