Following the resignation of Kelly Geater last November, the Treasurer's office has seen several changes. Michele Sauer was appointed in December and resigned for another position effective March 31, 2020. Melinda Schoettmer was then appointed to fill the seat by the Benton County Supervisors. Geater's original term expires on December 31, 2022.
The seat will be on the November ballot which will complete the remainder of the original term, running January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2022. The seat will then return to the regular voting schedule.
Sworn in on Tuesday morning in the 2nd-floor courtroom, Schoettmer is no stranger to the job. She began working in the Treasurer's office in September of 1997 as a clerk. In July of 1999, she was appointed a Deputy Treasurer and in September of 2002, she started issuing driver's licenses serving as the Driver's License Deputy for 17 1/2 years. Prior to working at the courthouse, she worked for Farmer's Bank and Trust.
Rose Sackett and Joy McGowan will now be the deputies in the Treasurer's Office.
Melinda a Vinton native, and husband Kip, of John's Tire, have two sons Jordan who attends Clarke University, and Ryan who is a senior at Vinton-Shellsburg.
Congratulations on your new position Melinda!
