The Public Safety Committee met before the regularly City Council meeting on Thursday, November 14, 2024. A discussion was held on the use of golf carts in the city after dark. Council members Ron Hessenius, Tami Stark, Wesley Recker, Zach Parmater and Andrew Elwick were present along with Mayor Bud Maynard, Chris Ward, City Adminmistratory, Melissa Schwan, City Clerk and Vinton Poice Chief Ted Paxton. Council member Rylie Pflughaupt.

Safety was the ultimate concern in the discussion. It was decided that there would not be any changes to the ordinance and carts would not be allowed after dark.

A discussion of the speed limits on 2nd Avene/25th Avenue, the new development area was also had.

Paxton expressed a concern that on a dry day, the dust causes a visibility problem as well as covers walkers in dust from the road. Recker said that there have been two cars that have flipped over onto the glow trail next to the new development. He mentioned the blind curve near the church is a hazard.

Paxton explained that the speed limit is 25 mph. He also recommends that the speed be lowered out to the Henkle residence. Recker also expressed concern about the road that runs next to the sewer plant, and the location of the glow trail being located very close to the road. Ward said that the speed in residential areas and school zones is 25 mph. Part of the road is county road so the county supervisors will have to make that adjustment.

Recker suggested that the speed be reduced to 25 mph on the Level B road.

Ward will present the proposal to the Supervisors.
