Virginia Gay Hospital’s project to construct a new building for the Vinton Family Medical Clinic commenced Tuesday with one small sign. Groundbreaking is set for Friday, June 3rd, and will occur after months of fine-tuning the costs with architects and contractors. “It took longer than I would have liked,” says Mike Reifenstahl, Director of Facilities at Virginia Gay, “but we’re pleased with the costs, the schedule and the team we have.”
Mike Timmermans says the fundraising has been on track to achieve its goals and that the Foundation is very pleased with the support provided by the community.
The first construction-related inconvenience fell on the lab team when the lab draw was moved back to the lab itself. One of the priorities for the new project is an expansion of the size and capabilities of the lab. Last year the lab provided more than 161,000 tests and the need for quick, accurate medical tests continues to increase.
Virginia Gay has also been adding new valet staff over the course of the past few months. Free valet service will be expanded during construction to include clinic patients as well as hospital patients.
