"Dunk him! Dunk him!"
"Dunk Mr. Davis!"
The chant could be heard echoing across the playground at Shellsburg Elementary, where the students celebrated Spirit Day, their year-end party.
They had spent the last few hours playing a variety of games, from the group parachute activities to kickball to bubbles to a sponge-passing game that left most participants soaked.
After enjoying free Peppy's Ice Cream treats courtesy of Tim Bird's business, the students gathered around the dunk tank.
The students in 5L, Mrs. Lorenzen's class, brought in the most box tops this month for the Box Tops 4 Education program, which earned more than $1,800 for Shellsburg Elementary this year -- more than 18,000 box tops worth a dime apiece for the school.
Mr. Davis had replaced his dress shoes with flip-flops, but was still wearing his shirt and tie. He told 5L students he didn't need to worry about changing clothes because he was sure they would all miss the round dunk tank target with their throws.
They disagreed; one boy offered to bet him $100 that he'd get dunked.
The principal would have lost that bet.
After several misses, one student finally hit the black target hard enough to dunk the principal.
