The Benton Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners would like to announce two scholarships available to students in Benton County. Students are eligible for either of these scholarships if their planned course of study is in any of the fields of agriculture and/or natural resources.
One scholarship is offered by the Conservation Districts of Iowa, a statewide organization of local District Commissioners. All seniors in the state are eligible to compete for three scholarships offered; one for $1800, one for $1200 and one for $1000. In addition, winners from the other six regions who do not receive the state awards will each receive $300. All applications must be completed using the approved form available at the Benton SWCD office, with extra pages typewritten. Students can also complete and print the application form at www.cdiowa.org/awards.html. Applications are to be submitted to the Soil & Water Conservation District office in the county where the student lives by March 1, 2011. The District Commissioners will select an application and forward it to the CDI Regional Director. Each Regional Director will select one application and forward it to the CDI Auxiliary President who will make the final statewide selections.
The Benton County Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners also offer a scholarship. It is open to students who are in their senior year of High School, or in any year of study in a 2 or 4-year program. Applicants must reside in Benton County. An application form is for this scholarship is also enclosed, or applications can be requested from the SWCD office in Vinton, or on line at www.bentonswcd.net . Applications must be returned to the District office by March 1 of each year.
