Jack Wesley Roster 78, of Canon City, Colorado died June 25, 2009, in Canon City.

He was born Nov. 2, 1930, to Loren M. and Kathryn M. (Graham) Roster in Tribune, Kansas.

Jack's family moved to Vinton, Iowa, after he was born, where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950.

He served in the U.S. Army from January of 1953 to December of 1960. He was Sgt. 1st. Class and trained troops at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. He also spent time in Korea, Japan and Germany. While in the Army, Jack crossed both the Atlantic and Pacific by ship.

After the service, he worked in heavy construction.

On June 10, 1961, he married Betty Lue Streets.

He moved his family to Colorado in July of 1975, settling in Canon City. He and his wife, Betty, ran Resthaven, an adult foster care home on Main Street. He retired in 1994, and he and Betty moved back to Iowa. They returned to Caon City in 2006 to be closer to their daughters.

Jack is survived by his wife of 48 years; his children, Mike (Wendy) Roster of Cedar Rapids, IA; Alisa (Tony) Gherna, Angela (Javier) Contreras, and Amy Hanan, all of Caon City, CO, and Ann (Everett) Thomas of Cedar Rapids, IA; two stepsons, John (Bev) Streets of New Hampton, IA, and Dave (Joyce) Streets of Coppell, TX; one sister, Mardene Carr of Cedar Rapids, IA; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Wayne, Jim, and Dean, and his great-grandson, Jarren.

A celebration of life took place in Vinton, Iowa, on June 12, 2010 with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements were handled through Holt Family Funeral Home, Canon City, CO.
