Dear Editor, Many people will decide not to vote in the upcoming elections for various reasons; but if there was ever a critical time to do so, it is NOW! Get out of your easy chairs...throw down the dish towels and go vote. I am 74 years old now. I joined the Young Democrats when I was a junior in high school. This was shocking to my family because both sides had been Republicans as far back as Teddy Roosevelt. But I stood my ground. I went door to door passing out pamphlets for L. Johnson who was running against B. Goldwater [for those of you who don't remember.] When I was expecting my third child, I made phone calls in support of George McGovern. As I have always been proud of being a strong Democrat, I have never regretted any of my votes...until now. I voted for Joe Biden, and I regret it every single time I watch the news or look at my computer! After earning two degrees in Iowa, I got sent to Wichita, KS in 1985 for a job promotion. While there, I decided to go back to college to get further education that would allow me to become a teacher. I had to take out student loans to attend Wichita State University. I signed the papers knowing full well that I had the responsibility to pay them back. When I got a job, I had to find a place to live, get a vehicle, etc. It was difficult at times, but I got the loans paid back. Millions of people did the same. I strongly oppose President Biden's actions to forgive $10,000 or $20,000 of student loans. These people signed papers promising to repay what was borrowed. The biggest fault I find with our country's "leader" is the border crisis. His second-in-command said on Meet the Press that our borders are secure. I almost dropped my cup of coffee at her statement. [5.5 million have crossed the border since Biden took office.] This figure is probably much higher. The news shows hoards of these people crammed together wherever there is room for them. Resources will be used to house and feed them. Crime and violence will go up in these areas. Something needs to be done...and soon! Does the President have his head buried in the sand? He apparently can't take the hints from Governors Abbot and Desantis. As I said, I deeply regret my vote! Don't get me wrong; I wouldn't have voted for Donald Trump. But that's another story. I truly believe that the Republicans need to control the House and the Senate for things to turn around. This country and our continued freedom depend on strong leaders. For this election I voted entirely for Republicans except for Liz Mathis. And I say this without any regrets. Please look over the candidates...make wise decisions...and GO VOTE!!
Peggy Kelley

DV November 2, 2022, 5:15 pm I too voted for Joe Biden and have not once regretted it. He is slowly nudging the nation back onto a reasonable path that will protect democracy.
ML November 2, 2022, 9:00 pm Ummmm, I did not vote for Biden. If the country was thriving right now the dems would take credit for it BUT the country is a crap show SO somehow that is Trump's fault. You make no sense! Is anyone else questioning why Biden is still looking for Jackie, come on man, that is so embarrassing!!!! I do feel people need to do their research and ask lots of questions before they vote!!!!
GB November 3, 2022, 12:03 am Amen! It is a crap show. Biden Jack's up everything he and the Dems touch!!! Everything!
SJW November 3, 2022, 12:23 pm So tired of people blaming Biden for high gas prices. Oil companies are making record profits, passing on those profits to their stockholders. and buying back their own stock. They are not sharing record profits with consumers by lowering gas prices. Good for you if you own stock in Exxon or Shell. Most working people dont.
TB November 3, 2022, 2:04 pm Just remember that a vote for Mathis is a vote for Pelosi. If Dems control the House, we'll have to put up with Pelosi for at least two more years. Think before you vote. Votes do have consequences.
JS November 3, 2022, 2:57 pm The Democrat elites always seem to criticize corporations for buying back stock. Management makes financial decisions they believe will benefit the bottom line - increasing investor wealth. What these Dems don't mention is that the seller - whose stock is bought back - is subject to capital gain taxes. So the government is likely not out any revenue. Remember that the next time a company is criticized for stock buybacks. Democrat leadership has a bad habit of not telling the whole story.
Regards
SJW November 3, 2022, 7:01 pm JS totally missed the point about stock buy backs. Their corporate greed hurts the consumer, not the government or the Democratic party. They could reduce gas prices and still make a killing without hurting the people who they depend on to buy their product.
GB November 3, 2022, 7:09 pm Biden and his Green Energy nuts on the left is exactly who to blame for fuel prices. If someone doesn't believe that, they seriously need some basic ability to comprehend simple facts and current events. It wouldn't hurt to take Economics 101 class at a legitimate college. Or they can climb out from whatever rock they live under. It's NOT complicated unless of course you happen to be part of the reason we need warning labels on a mower that says don't put your feet under it while it's running. Then it becomes a complicated subject, you will never understand..
NG November 3, 2022, 7:36 pm I too have already voted and did not vote for one republican. At the present time there are 308 election deniers on the ballot across the country. These are the people who will accept the results if they win but not if they loose, just like Trump did. Can you even imagine what kind of country we would be living in if the majority of them lost and then refused to accept their loss like Trump did? If they all started claiming fraud? Would we have a democracy left, probably not. The republican running in Wisconsin for Governor has said if he wins, the republicans in Wisconsin would never lose again. What does he mean other than cheating, that is the only way he can promise that.

If the republicans control the house and senate what would their agenda be? I just heard McCarthy say no they wouldn't cut social security, they would work to "save and protect it"!!! Well, what does that mean? I think there are only two ways to "save & protect" you either cut benefits or increase payroll taxes on the wealthy so they pair their fair share. Who will draw the largest benefit when they retire, the wealthy of course but they paid ihn the same amount I did. That's not right. One thing I am positive of is republicans are liars, and there is no doubt about that. If and when they have complete control SS and Medicare will be cut and some of them bwant to eliminate it. They will do exactly what they want when they are in control.

Republicans have been guilty of banning books, books that are about historical truths, like the book written by Ruby Bridges. If black children can survive racism, white children can survive learning about slavery.

I watched many many TV ads by Ashley Hinson blaming President Biden and Rep Nancy Pelosi for gas prices. Everyone who ever paid attention knows the President has nothing to do with gas prices. Opec and the big oil companies control that. Now the big oil companies have cut production so they can raise prices again. They are just plain greedy.

When corporations buy back stocks what do you suppose they are doing for their employees? That's right, not a thing. Big corporations are making record breaking profits and that is not "trickling" down to their employees. It goes to stock by backs and their pockets. I am not talking about the government being out some money I am talking about the employees who receive none of those record breaking profits even though they are doing the work.

Don't understand why republicans are so full of hate for Nancy Pelosi. So full of hate that when her husband was beat in the head with a hammer some of them made jokes about it and laughed about it. Shame on them for such a lack of compassion.

So are republicans concerned about our democracy? No they are not because they want to take complete control so we can live in a dictatorship. If that happens you will soon regret your vote.

Be careful what you vote for, you may live to regret it. Vote Blue.
NG November 3, 2022, 7:47 pm I do have one question I forgot to ask. We hear lots of comments from republicans hating on President Biden but we never hear them say anything about 1/6 or now about Paul Pelosi. Why not? I think it is because those acts were committed by republicansd and so it is better to just sweep them under the rug.

Your hateful republican rhetoric contributes to the problem.
NG November 3, 2022, 11:26 pm GB, since you want to blame President for all your aches and pains and the price of gas let me ask you a question.

The price of gas is high in other countries too. Denmark is paying $10.02, France $8.06, Canada $6.49 and China $5.50 for example. My question is are you blaming President for that too?

The same goes for inflation. Turkey has an inflation rate of 83.5%, Germany 10%, U.K. 10.1% and Italy 8.9%. Are you blaming President Biden for all of that too?

He must have damn long arms to reach around the world like that, NOT
GB November 4, 2022, 6:26 am NG, the numbers on inflation you post for other countries are not accurate. It doesn't help your position by inflating the facts to somehow add false credibility to a false narrative.
Again, go enroll in a basic class on simple economics. Next time I see a warning label on something that should be common sense for most of us, I will know it is there for you.
MR November 4, 2022, 9:18 am I will never vote for a candidate that is not pro-life. Everything else is secondary. If a politician is willing to support or not stand up against such an evil act, then how can I trust them with anything else.
NG November 4, 2022, 5:03 pm GB, what is wrong with you that you have to be so nasty when you comment to me? Do you have a problem with women? Is that it, you are a male chauvinist and think you are better than me? You are not.

As far as what I posted I went back to look for updated numbers.

The previous gas prices were from Forbes and were from May These updated prices are from Global Petrol Prices from the end of October. Denmark, $7.67; France, $6.00; Canada, $5.41; China, $4.66.

As for inflation the updated numbers are from Trading Economics. Turkey, 85.5% 10/22; Germany 10.4% 10/22; U.K., 10.1% 9/22; Italy, 11.9% 10/22.

Now I don't care what you think of me but you said you were no longer going to respond to what I say but here you are being totally disrespectful again. Are you not capable of just having a conversation without being a jerk? I am sick of your nastiness and your superior attitude. Stuff it Gerald.
GB November 5, 2022, 5:52 pm NG,
I wish I had as much time as you appear to have posting your anti-American, anti-Republican and anti-Men rhetoric. Most of us have to work for a living. I am not anti-Women or even anti-Democrat. I do consider myself to be anti-Fake News and anti-Socialist. So when you start spouting out fictional numbers and fake information in an attempt to sway public opinion to follow your delusional views of reality, you can and should expect to be corrected.
I have read countless comments you have made against Republicans and especially men in general. They are disturbing at best and only God knows what brought you to the point you have so much hate.
Personally and with all due respect to you "Ms Norma" it's very difficult to ignore common sense when you try repeatedly without end to blame Trump for everything we now face under Biden. Here is a big update for you; Trump is not and has not been our President for some time now.. Fuel prices and an out of control border along with the countless overdose deaths of Americans all fall at the feet of Biden and his Green Energy Nuts. None of these issues were even close to the numbers we now face in this country. Only an idiot would cut our own production of "our" oil and then go and beg the Saudis to produce more and worse yet, beg our enemies to do the same! How stupid (not you Ms Norma)can one be? Where do you think that money goes? The vast majority of it goes to the countries who pump the oil! Sure petroleum companies make some profits and thank God they do or they would go out of business and what are you going to do then? Ride around on a mule?
Ms NG, I sincerely hope you have a great rest of your weekend and that God finds a way to soften your heart and frees you from so much hate.
Here are a few numbers to ponder.
Top 10 Countries with the lowest Inflation Rates
(Trading Economics January 2022)
1. Rwanda -2.0%
2. Chad -0.5%
3. Maldives -0.02%
4. Gabon 0.6%
5.Japan 0.6
6. Bahrain 0.7%
7. Fiji 0.8%
8. Vanuatu 0.9%
9. Bolivia 0.9%
10. Saudia Arabia 1.1%

Your biggest decision on political votes is whether your legislator can tell a woman how to manage their family planning? So now we have 50 different state versions of how a woman makes her decision about what should be a private matter between herself, her doctor, and her God. A basic woman's right now depends upon what state she lives in and will become a political talking point every two years. I really think there are more important issues that need to be addressed by legislators.
GB November 6, 2022, 12:12 am Sure Ms Norma. Just go ahead and ignore everything else. Fall back on abortion. The whole reason the Supreme Court overturned the Federal Law on abortion was because the Federal Courts should never have been involved with it to begin with. Yet the left forced it and argued it was a Constitutional issue. It was not. It has never been a Constitutional issue. That is why it was overturned. It is something for each state to decide for that state. Like it or not, right or wrong, that is the facts.
NG November 6, 2022, 1:43 am Gerald, since you are not true to your word when you said you would not make comments to me anymore I am true to mine. I will no longer respond to your name calling and disrespect. I mean it Gerald, stuff it.
TW November 7, 2022, 7:37 am NG and GB please don’t stop! I had to cancel my cable tv subscription due to inflation and this is the only form of entertainment that I get now.
