Dear Editor,

Iowa first in the Nation Status?

We are a few days away from the Republican Caucus, but no Democrat one. Why did President Biden and the DNC give the Iowa status away to South Carolina?. A slap in the face to Iowa Democrats! Democrats should be mad as hell over this slight and I am all for them for I see this as an assault on the first Amendment. It can be charged that the Republican Caucus has not always picked the Nominee , the same can be said of the Democrat Caucus, It seems to me this is just Joe's finger to Iowa, His Democrat Party.

It is my humble opinion the Pres. Biden should and ought to be primaried. Robert Kennedy Jr. is certainly one who should be heard, perhaps Gov. Gavin Newsom as well. So far the DNC has not and probably will not allow this to happen. Pres. Johnson was the last to be primaried and he did drop out in favor of, if memory serves, Hubert Humphrey, who lost in a landslide to Ronald Reagan.

But, it seems all the mainstream media and prominent news TV and cable outlets are doing their best to Protect old Joe and also everything to bury the "Donald" as well as certain state AG's. The first R. caucus I attended there were only three of us plus the Chairman. The 2016 Caucus the former legion hall in Mt. Auburn was standing room only with Bruce- Cedar , Monroe caucusing together. I voted for the only female; the vote was overwhelming for Donald Trump. So again I voted for the loser, although I thought she was the better.

I am not saying who I will support for that decision should be up to each person who is taking the trouble to attend during what looks like a normal Iowa winter. Each attending should be congratulated for performing their civic duty.

There have been a few that stated this scenario - Joe will drop out at some point for health reasons leaving the decision for the nominee to the Convention. Risky? I don't put much stake in this happening. Anyway this will be an interesting year.

I pray our Nation will survive what looks like a tumultuous year.

Regards and blessings

OS January 10, 2024, 2:17 pm Just a note for the future John: There is no such thing as a Democrat Caucus. What I think you mean is the Democratic Caucus. It's a mistake made by most of the right-wing media, so I know where you get it. They think that this mistake somehow makes democrats upset. However, it just shows that they don't know the proper name of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
DL January 10, 2024, 3:31 pm Why do you worry about what the DNC is doing to nominate a presidential candidate? Kennedy has made his intention clear, and I imagine he will get some interest when the caucus takes place.

I was all for the Iowa Caucuses taking a back seat to more diverse states. No unnecessary mailers in the year leading up to the caucuses. No national and international media hanging around for a year. And, the biggest reason to not have the first in the nation, caucuses. Not having the RNC purposely clogging the phone lines being used only for results being called into the central headquarters. Just another reason to ask why the RNC feels like they need to cheat to win.
RB January 10, 2024, 4:06 pm I pray our Nation will survive what looks like a tumultuous year.

If you really mean that you will pray that a criminal like Trump can never get near the White House again. If the Republican Party hadn't lost their way he would never get a sniff again. Surely there are better candidates somewhere? 91 indictments, five kids with three wives, paying a porn star, Trump University a fraud, Trump steaks a fraud, Trump foundation shut down, sexual assault and defamation settled, tax fraud, Son-in-law gets 2 billion "investment from Saudi Arabia, daughter makes millions in China while working for the government, "stealing" classified documents, "I only need 11,780 votes," Wake up before we lose our democracy. John, you never seem to write a letter-to-the-editor about any of the things I mentioned. You must support that kind of behavior as long as a Republican does it.

PK January 11, 2024, 9:49 am Congratulations RB...You finally wrote something I agree with 110%!!! Can't this country do better than Biden and Trump? SCARY!!! [I promised long ago to support Ron DeSantis, and I will be true to that promise. Guess I'll write his name in on my absentee ballot.] Imagine that...Someone in this country true to their word. Neither Biden or Trump should be in the White House again. Neither of them have any character!!
GB January 11, 2024, 9:23 pm If a goat finds his way onto the ballot against Joe as the head of the Biden Crime Family, my vote will be for the goat! If it is DeSantis or Trump, I will vote for them. Joe is already hiding in his basement. The poor fella can't even find his way off a stage or navigate a set of stairs. Who's brilliant idea was it to put that clown on a bicycle that time he fell over? He's the worst President this country has ever had.
jS January 12, 2024, 2:54 pm O.S. I think you are incorrect it is the Democrat Party not as you say the democratic party. I am not in error you are.

As to others I have not stated who I support. Wife Sharon and I have voted opposites in Caucuses of past, we will do so this time. I'm O.K. with that as is she. I do hope that Kennedy Jr. wins support as Biden/Harris has shown incompetence and a disregard for the oath they took.

As to notorious past deeds. Clinton, Johnson, Kennedy were not saints. Sen. Ted Kennedy may have been the worst of all.

RS January 13, 2024, 2:00 pm John,
Where do you get your information from other than right-wing sites?
From the Britannica website, (you know the encyclopedia) the definition is:
“The Democratic Party is the oldest political party in the United States and among the oldest political parties in the world. “
https://www.britannica.com/topic/Democratic-Party

also from factcheck.org

"The Democratic Party traces its roots to 1792 and the anti-federalist faction led by Thomas Jefferson. The Jeffersonians called themselves “Republicans” at first, and later “Democratic-Republican.” The party splintered in the late 1820s, and the faction led by Andrew Jackson in his successful presidential campaign of 1828 became the modern Democratic Party. It formally adopted the name “Democratic Party” at its convention in 1844.

However, some Republican leaders have made a habit of referring to their opposition incorrectly and discourteously as the “Democrat Party.” The reason isn’t entirely clear; it may be meant to imply that the party isn’t sufficiently “democratic” in the general sense, or may just be meant as a petty insult. In August 2006, Hendrik Hertzberg traced this Republican usage, which he termed a “slur” on his party, back to the 1940s. He says it was used by opponents to needle the powerful Pendergast organization in Kansas City, which backed Harry Truman. He also says it was used often by the late Sen. Joseph McCarthy."

As members of the Democratic Party, we are Democrats but the party is known as the Democratic Party.
