At Benton County Speedway, there is a "lil" club set up for "lil" kids to enjoy called the 'Lil Racer Car Club." This year, the Crew Chief, Janice Smith, her husband Larry, and their daughter, handed out backpacks filled with school supplies to hand out to all of the kids who were at the race track.
Janice and Larry Smith, both in their 70s now drive to be at the Benton County Speedway to help with the program. Every year, Janice coordinates this event, fills the backpacks at home, stores them, and Larry brings them in a trailer to the track.
There were 143 backpacks filled thanks to the donations. She said that she waits for the back to school sales and then goes shopping for next year. She shops for and then fills the bags with things like, spiral notebooks, markers, pens, pencils, glue sticks, colored pencils, highlighters, pencil sharpeners, folders, scissors and crayons.
Those who helped my making donations this year include: Harry Harrison, Michelle Bruce, Dani Webster, Wendy Drinovsky, Jane Kaiser Family, Terri Shafer, Kimm Racing, Steve and Kelsi Stoner, Ben and Raini Chapman, Josh and Kari Burkhart, Mitch Swinton, Brady Hilmer, Joe Docekal, Jerry and Nate Hall, Jeff LaCoursiere, Mary Barkdoll, Kim Casteel, Hurst Family Racing, Georgianne Harrison, and last but not least Rick, Kim and Corey Dripps and the Benton County Speedway.
She thanks the Dripps family especially for their help in making this project continue. This year 14 full totes were hauled in on the back of a trailer to make the delivery possible.
