Church plans special outdoor Halloween celebration at Celebration Park

On Frida,y Oct 31, the Revolution Church is sponsoring an event called Celebrate Life at Celebration Park.  This will take place from 5 - 8pm.  During that event we will be having a Trunk or Treat, bonfire, free hot dogs and hot chocolate.  We are wanting to provide a safe place for children during this event and a positive experience for the whole family.

VS bowlers plan 9-Pin fund-raiser, Nov. 1

The Vinton-Shellsburg Bowling team is ready to hit the lanes in November for their second year of bowling competitively.  We are kicking off the bowling season with our 2nd Annual 9 Pin Bowling tournament on November 1st.  This year the V-S coach, Amber Pattee will be leading the our high school teams in twelve competitions from November to February.

Paranormal Group to present depot findings, Oct. 25

Come to the Ray House on Saturday, October 25 if you dare!!!   The Eastern Iowa Paranormal Group will be presenting their findings from overnight stays at the Ray House, Vinton Depot and Horridge House.   The spooky event starts at 6:30 pm.   Space is limited -- please email bentoncohistorical@gmail.com to reserve your seats.

Vinton TTT Chapter to participate in Barns & Noble fund-raising event, Oct. 25

TTT will be hosting a Book Fair Fundraiser at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 9am-7pm. Attached is a flyer about the fundraiser and free events. When a person says TTT at checkout for purchases at Barnes & Noble Cedar Rapids, TTT Vinton Chapter DM will receive a percentage of the net sales. Purchases may also be done online between Oct.

VPRD plans variety of Halloween events

Something is spooky in the air and we want to celebrate it! This weekend, the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will play host to a number of frightenly-fun Halloween-themed events. - The Kid’s Downtown Spooktacular Day on Saturday, October 25th will have your costumed children participating in a number of Halloween-themed games and pumpkin decorating before they head out on a costume trick-or-treating parade through Vinton’s downtown businesses.

'Crafted with Love' sale to raise funds for Gifts of Hope, Oct. 25

Windsor Manor will host the 6th Annual Crafted with Love Open House on Saturday, Oct. 25th from 1-4pm. The event includes local vendors selling arts and crafts, and a bake sale. Proceeds from craft and bake sale go to support the Virginia Gay Hospital Foundation Gifts of Hope program which offers funding to area women for breast cancer screening.

Reception to honor Pastor Bob Gaston's ordination

The public in invited to a reception honoring Pastor Bob Gaston of Harvest Christian Fellowship Church, Vinton. He was ordained into the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel on October 14, 2014.  Pastor Bob has been the Senior Pastor at Harvest Christian Fellowship since  October, 2012. The reception will be Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 2-4 pm at the church, 1201 C.

Meeting to offer information about 2014 Farm Bill, Nov. 19

Benton County, Iowa – Farmers and landowners will learn about the new programs authorized by the Agricultural Act of 2014 (commonly referred to as the Farm Bill) at an informational meeting conducted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and local USDA Farm Service Agency staff members. Meetings will be held Nov. 19th 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM at the Van Horne Community Center, 508 1st Ave.

College Planning meetings to be held at VSHS

In conjunction with the College Planning Center, VS-HS will host two seminars for upperclassmen on Monday, October 20:      *  6:30 p.m.:  Juniors and their parents are invited to a session about selecting the right college, basic financial issues, and other aspects of post secondary education;      *  7:30 p.
