If you haven't registered for this year's Party in Pink 5K Walk/Run and want a tee-shirt, today's your last chance! Registrations are accepted right up until race time, but those received through the end of today are guaranteed an official event t-shirt and packet. The event is scheduled for Friday, June 18, in Vinton's Riverside Park and coincides with the Vinton Parks and Recreation Department's annual Party in the Park celebration. Register online by following this link:bit.ly/partyinpink2021.
A Kids Fun Run starts at 5:30 pm, with the 1-mile and 5K options beginning at 6 pm. All proceeds from the Party in Pink event benefit Gifts of Hope, a program established through Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics, provides mammograms and other services to women in Benton County unable to afford the tests needed for breast cancer detection and other procedures. In addition, Gifts of Hope funds will pay the difference between standard 2D mammography and 3D (Tomosynthesis) offered at Virginia Gay Hospital when 3D mammography is not covered through insurance. Last year, Gifts of Hope gave out $15,000 by request to patients in Benton County who needed assistance.
VIRTUAL AND REAL-TIME OPTIONSIn response to COVID-19, organizers added safety precautions and a virtual option to last year's race. Safe participation for all continues to be a priority. Therefore, both the virtual and real-time options have been kept in place for the 2021 event.
The virtual option allows flexibility for participants to run or walk a course of their choice during the weekend and submit their time online to be added to the event results board. They can also post photos to Facebook to stay connected and share with the Party in Pink community.
The real-time experience will include all the things past racers know and love about this event, including chipped timing. After the race is complete, stay at Riverside for Party in the Park festivities! The line-up includes live music by The Schmidt Brothers band and lots of free, family fun!
