It's that time of year again when everyone's scrambling around trying to figure out what to get the youth who says they have it all! Lottery tickets and Lottery scratch-offs are an easy gift and many like to use them as stocking stuffers, however, these may not be the best option.

The National Council on Problem Gambling reports that youth problem gambling has emerged as a significant and growing public health issue. Research shows that early exposure to gambling, like lottery and scratch-off tickets, leads to future problem gambling and other risky behaviors. Instead of purchasing lottery tickets or scratch-off tickets, there are other gift ideas for children such as: bath bombs, candy, snacks, headphones, board games, art supplies, gift cards, stuffed animals, nail polish, video games and many more.

Area Substance Abuse Council (ASAC) is committed to raising awareness about the risks of youth gambling. The message ASAC is helping spread is simple: lottery tickets are never appropriate gifts for children.
