Got scrap metal? Want to avoid landfill fees? Area residents are invited to clean up, recycle and contribute to community projects by donating such trash to the Vinton Lions scrap metal fundraiser Saturday September 26, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Ideal Industries, 1705 E Street West (Vinton’s Industrial Park). Elderly and handicapped donors who have no way to transport their scrap can call fundraising chair Rick Ohrt at 472-4813 or email vintonlionsclub@gmail.com to request curbside pickup. Questions about acceptable items may also be directed to Rick Ohrt. A full list of acceptable and unacceptable items is available by clicking here, at City Hall, and on Facebook at Lions Club – Vinton Iowa.
Donated scrap will be crushed and/or recycled by A-line Metals and Iron of Waterloo, with proceeds going to the Vinton Lions for their many local projects, including school programs, college scholarships and Viking Athletic Boosters; Boy Scouting; Veterans Honor Flight, and Kids Sight vision testing equipment for area preschoolers; and helping those in need obtain eye glasses and hearing aides. On a regional and national level, they have supported causes including Diabetes Awareness, the Cancer Walk, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Iowa Lions Foundation and national Lions programs.
