The Benton County Legion and Auxiliary presented scholarship and merit awards to area Benton County Seniors at the American Legion & Auxiliary John W. McGranahan Post 167.
Ed Schaffer, Benton County Commander opened the ceremony along with Doug Anderson the Benton County Scholarship Chair.
Both presented scholarships to the following students:
Olivia Bohlen - Belle Plaine High School, from the Belle Plaine Post
Emma Drahos - Benton Community High School, from the Blairstown Post
Ethan Hudson - Benton Community High School, from the Newhall Post
Alexander Ludeking - Benton Community High School, from the Norway Post
Claire Booth - Vinton-Shellsburg Community High School, from the Shellsburg Post
Dawson Franck - Benton Community High School, from the Van Horne Post
The Legion Scholarship Committee is made up of the following members:
Ed Schaffer, Benton County Commander, Doug Anderson, Newhall Post, Rick Voss, Blairstown Post, and Dave Travis of Shellsburg.
The American Legion Auxiliary Merit Awards were presented by Janet Knaack. The following students received a Merit Award:
Renee Gram - Vinton-Shellsburg Community School, from the Vinton Unit
Sarah Gorkow - Benton Community High School, from the Norway Unit
Ella Hayden - Benton Community High School, from the Blairstown Unit
Julia Biery - Benton Community High School, from the Keystone Unit
Dawson Franck - Benton Community High School, from the Van Horne Unit
The Auxilliary Awards Committee is made up of Sharon Koster, Chairman, Blairstown Unit 170, Vicki Streeter, Vinton Unity 57, and Janyce Pohlmann, Keyston Unit 107.
