Obituaries Gabriel John Olson

Gabriel John Olson passed peacefully in the arms of his family on June 11, 2026.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m.,Friday, June 19, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Vinton, with Father Jim Brokman as Celebrant. Burial will be in Big Grove Cemetery, Garrison. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Gabriel and his family.

Gabriel was born at 9:06 a.m., June 10, 2026, to parents, Ben and Amy (Monat) Olson. During his short time here on earth, he touched many lives and left a vast amount of memories with all of his family he got to meet. He fought a tremendous battle for his 27 hours of life. At 12:40 p.m. on June 11, he passed away in the arms of his mother, father, and sister, and returned to his heavenly home.

Left to treasure Gabriel's memory are his parents, Ben and Amy Olson of Vinton; sister, Madeline; brother, JB; paternal grandparents, John and Ellen Olson of Vinton; maternal grandmother, Nancy Monat of Traer; paternal great-grandmother, Mary Kruse of Dubuque; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Monat; maternal great-grandparents: John and Elizabeth Thoma and Victor and Mary Monat; and paternal great-grandparents: Art and Betty Olson and Duane Kruse.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Olson family would like to thank the staff at University of Iowa Hospitals. From the Fetal Care Clinic, to the OB team, to the NICU team of nurses and doctors who never left his side and treated Gabriel like one of their own, thank you.
