VINTON - Brooks Erickson ran 16 yards for a late first half touchdown, Bennett Rickles added an extra point that was the mathematical difference Friday night as the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings edged Waterloo Columbus, 7-6 at the Karr Athletic Complex.

It might have been the difference on paper, but the real difference came down to a Herculean effort by the Viking defense. The Black Shirts fought off two different Sailor forays inside the Viking 10, forced a missed field goal and a turnover on downs along way.

Complete game details will be available tomorrow.

The Vikings will make it three straight home games next Friday night when they host South Tama. Freshman/sophomore action begins at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity to follow.
