VINTON -- The Vinton-Shellsburg boys' basketball team rode a red-hot start into 2021 Monday night and came away with a 57-31 WaMaC West win over South Tama.

The Vikings (3-4 overall), pulled out to an 18-4 first quarter lead and were up 42-10 at the half. Derron Hughes drained four three-pointers on his way to a game high 15 points, while CJ Rickels joined him in double figures with 12. Ethan Rollinger scrapped to add eight, Kaden Kingsbury and Ryan Moore added six, Gunnar Moen four, and Elijah Kalous, David Lapan-Islas, and Austin Kemp all had a pair.

The Vikings get right back at Tuesday as they hit the road to Williamsburg, then return home Friday night to host Independence.
