VINTON - The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity softball team is off to a 2-6 start for 2021. The Vikette wins were 1-0 vs. Marion and 5-2 vs. Riverside. The losses in a doubleheader to the Mount Vernon Mustangs, the Janesville Wildcats, Jesup J-Hawks, game two to Marion, and the Springville Orioles.

The win over Marion was dramatic, as V-S pitcher Anna Becker outdualed Wolves' ace Megan Kessens. Kessens took a perfect game into the sixth inning before Isabelle Mullnix reached on a walk, and Abby Davis singled. Bree Swenson replaced Mullnix as a pinch-runner, and she came into to score the deciding run on Ashlie Meyer's clutch two-out hit.

The Vikettes have a busy week ahead. Monday make the long trek to Maquoketa for a double-dip date with the Cardinals, before returning home for a JV/Varsity tilt with Union followed up with a WaMaC West doubleheader against Independence.

Friday the Vikettes will be in a tournament at Cedar Rapids Jefferson before returning home Saturday for Breakfast at Thole Field for the 2021 Vikette Invitational.
