David “Bert” McAtee

David “Bert” McAtee, 58, died March 19, 2017, at his residence following a sudden illness. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. David was born July 10, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, to Donald and Donna (Poulson) McAtee. Known to family and friends as “Bert,” he worked for East Iowa Decks for many years, and recently at Benton Grain for Nolan Farms. He enjoyed NASCAR races and all sports. He is survived by his daughter, Angelia Mae McAtee and fiance, Chris McClellan, of Bayard; his son, Jeremy Lee McAtee of Palo; his grandchildren, Alexis, Allyson, Autumn, Adiline McAtee and Liam McClellan; his brother, Doug McAtee of Toledo; and his sisters, Denise Knudtson of Palo and Diana Dawes of Van Horne. Valerie was born November 10, 1975 in Iowa City to Gary and Kay (Harris) Schadle.  She worked at Whirlpool in Amana for thirteen years.  Valerie was a student at Kaplan University for the last seven years achieving her Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and was working towards her Bachelors Degree. Valerie was a lover of animals and enjoyed riding her Harley-Davidson motorcycle.  She especially enjoyed Miranda and raising her son, Michael and socializing with her family and friends. KEYSTONE:  Robert L. Michalec, 91 and Allen L. Michalec, 69 of Keystone died February 14, 2017 from injuries sustained in a house fire.  A joint memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM, Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4401 – 42nd Street NE in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Scott Haakenson officiating.  Iowa Military Funeral Honors will provide graveside military rites for Robert at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery prior to the memorial service and for Allen at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery (Exit 113 Van Meter) 11 AM, Monday, March 13, 2017.  Memorials may be directed to the SDA Church or the family. Robert served his country in the United States Army from July 1946 – March 1947 where he received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.
