Lola Bossler

VAN HORNE:     Lola Mardean Junge Bossler, 94, died Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center following an extended illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne with Father Craig Steimel as Celebrant.  The Casket will not be present at the church on Monday. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery near Van Horne.  Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., on Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone. A Memorial fund has been established. Lola was born May 7, 1922 at Keystone to Peter N. and Hilda (Seeck) Junge. On May 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to Loren J. Bossler at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne.  The couple farmed in the Van Horne area.  Loren preceded her in death in 2000. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lola served on the Altar and Rosary Society.  She was a founding member of the Van Horne Community Club, a Charter member of Tara Hills Country Club, served on the Board of National Management Housing, and was a member of the Van Horne City Council and also served as Mayor for two terms.  She also belonged to the Red Hat Ladies. Marcella Miller

  NEWHALL:  Marcella Miller, 93 passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Vinton Lutheran Home.  Marcella’s wishes were no visitation and to be cremated.  Private family services will be at a later date.  Burial will be at the Norway Cemetery.  Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Marcella was born to John and Jessie (Primrose) Meland on August 10, 1923.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John Meland; son, Gary Erland; granddaughter, Karen Erland and son-in-law, Gene Williams. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Williams of Newhall; sons, Don (Sharon) Erland and Jon (Butch) Willer both of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; step-sons, Gary (Renee) Miller of Toddville and John (Linda) Miller of Marion; her grandchildren, Larry Williams of Denver, Colorado, Cindy (Leo) Frazier and Lisa Williams of Cedar Rapids and Jason Erland of Signal Ridge Mountain, Tennessee; and many great grandchildren. ATKINS: Eda Barbara Schanbacher, 98, of Solon, and formerly of Atkins, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Windmill Manor in Tiffin following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2016 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating.  Interment will be held at St. Stephen’s Cemetery near Atkins.  Visitation will also be held at the church. Friends may register from 5 to 7 p.m., on Friday..  A memorial fund has been established for St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice. Eda was born December 17, 1917 at Atkins to George W. and Anna (Gerhold) Rinderknecht and graduated from the Atkins High School in 1934.                  . On September 14, 1940 she was united in marriage to Wilbert “Bill” Schanbacher at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins. The couple farmed in Linn County until 1973 when they moved to Solon.  Wilbert preceded Eda in death on October 3, 2002. While living in Atkins, Eda was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church where she served as Past President of the Ladies Society, taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Christian Couples Club.  She was also a member of the Atkins Women’s Club. VAN HORNE: Darris William Pickering, 72, of Van Horne, passed away on September 18, 2016 from a tragic accident. Visitation with viewing will be held at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m.  On Sunday at 2 p.m. there will be a brief service with a Celebration of life to follow at the Keystone Turner Hall.  The casket will not be present at the Turner Hall. Private Committal Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Newhall.  A Memorial Fund has been established. Darris was born on June 9, 1944 to Harold and Ivadel (Hagen) Pickering. He was confirmed at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne. In 1962 he graduated from Van Horne High School. Darris was united in married to Charlene Cronbaugh in 1964.  Children Lisa and Devin were born to this marriage. They later divorced.  Darris married Nancy Obermueller in 1987. They also later divorced.  In 2014 Darris was united in marriage to Lisa Pippert-Suchomel. For many years Darris farmed the family farm along with his father and son, growing corn, and beans and raising cattle and hogs. He also worked briefly at Amana Refrigeration during the down time in farming. He established Pickering Backhoe Service, where he worked with his son Devin. VINTON:  William F. “Bill” Reed, 86 died Monday, September 5, 2016 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center.  Bill’s body was donated to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.  A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Victory Baptist Church, 703 Water Street, Center Point with Pastor Larry Daubs officiating.  He and his wife, Shirley will be interred together at Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton at a later date.
