root beer float mugYear after year blood centers across the country see a drastic dip in donations during the warmer months due to donors’ plans for summer fun: weddings, vacations, and outdoor events take up time when donors would normally come in and make a lifesaving gift. If you’ve never donated before or it’s been awhile since you have, now would be a great time to give blood.

Virginia Gay Hospital will be hosting another community blood drive with LifeServe Blood Center on Tuesday, May 22 from 1:00-5:30 pm. The drive will once again be held in the cafeteria located on the lower level of the hospital at 502 N. 9th Avenue, Vinton.

Just one pint of donated blood can help up to three different people. LifeServe Blood Center and Virginia Gay Hospital rely on charitable community members to help provide blood to people in need. Giving blood is a safe, simple procedure. New blood donors who are not familiar with the blood donation process are encouraged to ask questions before, during and after their blood donation.

As part of the LifeServe Blood Center’s incentive program, all summertime donors can redeem their points for a limited edition “Not All Superheros Wear Capes” t-shirt for just 200 points in the LifeServe Online Store. John’s Qwik Stop/A&W is also providing coupons for free root beer floats to donors at this blood drive while supplies last.
