Editor’s Note: Paula Denison is announcing that she will again run for the Iowa House District 75 seat currently held by Dawn Pettengill. Denison had challenged Pettengill in 2016 and is currently seeking the Democratic nomination in the June primary.

VAN HORNE–My name is Paula Denison and I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Iowa House of Representatives. I am running because Iowans and the people of the 75th district deserve better from our government. We deserve representatives who listen and reflect our common values. I promise to be that representative. I will take the time to learn the issues that are important to you. My primary concerns are renewing Iowa‘s commitment to public education, the working families of Benton and Iowa Counties, and finally, putting an end to the privatized Medicaid fiasco.

As an Iowa native, I grew up in a family rich with traditions in community service and involvement. My father was a small business owner who paid competitive wages, provided health care, paid time off, and other benefits to his employees. My mother was a non-traditional student. She raised her family while attending Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa College of Nursing. She was a nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Together, Bob and Darlene Gibson raised and put 4 children through college. Along the way we learned the value of hard work, volunteerism, and community.

I graduated from the University of Iowa and began my professional career at the Arizona Department of Health Services. Upon returning to Iowa, I worked in both the private and public sectors of the legal field. In 2013, I took leap of faith and obtained my insurance licenses to begin a new chapter in my professional life. I am currently an independent agent with Neighbor Insurance Services. I enjoy helping people develop comprehensive protection plans by educating my clients on their options and giving them the tools they need to make informed decisions.

I am married to Neal Denison. Neal is a proud union member (ASCME Local 620). We moved to Van Horne looking for the quiet serenity of life in the country. We met wonderful friends and discovered the amenities of Benton and Iowa Counties. As your Representative, I will do my best to represent the issues confronting the children, families, workers, and business owners in the 75th District and the rest of Iowa. I look forward to listening to you and learning the issues that are important to the families of Benton and Iowa Counties.
