Existing Iowa AmeriCorps programs engage members in tasks such as tutoring at-risk youth to get them reading at grade-level; providing outreach and services to prevent child and substance abuse; retrofitting homes to improve energy efficiency; providing capacity-building services to increase the effectiveness of Iowa nonprofit organizations; restoring habitats and building trails in Iowa parks; and assisting refugees in accessing healthcare and securing jobs. Potential applicants may do similar activities or use members to address other identified needs in their community.
