It’s that time of year again!  The Benton County Fair has again rolled around and many kids and adults can’t wait.  This is one chance 4-H and FFA kids have to show off all the work they have done on a project throughout the year.   We have some very talented kids in our county that go through a lot of work with their livestock or 4-H static projects getting ready for fair.  I hope you will stop out to the Fairgrounds and take the time to look at all they have done.
It’s also a great time to support not only the local kids but the local producers in our county.  You’ve got great choices of food in all the booths out there.   Stop out and support the pork producers by having a brat or the dairy producers by having an ice cream cone.  They would certainly appreciate it!  And if it’s hot out, there’s always the beer tent that those over 21 can stop in and have a refreshing beverage at.
There are numerous opportunities to see the kids and their livestock.  Livestock shows begin Thursday morning and go through Sunday.
Friends of 4-H have some great pies and other food items that they auction at the livestock shows and the money raised stays in our county where they offer fun opportunities for the 4-Her’s throughout the year such as a skating party in December.
There are the great midway carnival rides every kid loves to check out.  They’ve added some new attractions on Friday this year with a Pie Eating Contest, Cookie Stacking Contest as well as a photography opportunity and plant identification quiz.
Saturday afternoon are Barnyard Olympics at the Cattle Arena and if you’ve never seen that, you really should!  It can be quite entertaining!
Finally on Sunday, like every year is the big Auction.  Kids are rewarded for their hard work by participating in the Ribbon Auction.  Stop out and support a 4-Her by bidding on their ribbon.
Remember, the fair only comes around once a year so make sure you are supporting local, after all, they are home grown.
