Several members of the Benton County Historic Preservation Commission joined preservationists from all around the country at the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions Forum this past weekend in Des Moines attended this event.
Many, many resources were shared and even more networking opportunities in the area of historical preservation, advocacy, and resources (along with so much more) were made available to all in attendedance.
I attended the Forum on behalf of the Herring Hotel Foundation. However, as Commissioner, Phil Borleske was unable to attend, I was also included with the Benton County Historic Preservation Commission as an alternate. This allowed their group to cover every work session as this event, bringing all the information and resources possible, back to be utilized in Benton County.
I’ve attached a picture of the group from our last day of the Forum. Included in the picture is also Paula Mohr. Paula Mohr, the the CLG Coordinator for the state of Iowa and the commissions go to for guidance relating to any issue their group may face, was  honored with a “life time achievement” type of award at this year’s event as well as acting as chairperson on the event planning committee. She is well known and recognized nationally for her roll and work in historic preservation. Paula has been very helpful to both of our groups and we are very fortunate to have her as a resource as we work to fullfill our missions.
Individuals included in the photo are: Benton County Commisioners Robert Spangler, Jeff Young, Allison Hicks, & Penny Schott, the State of Iowa CLG Coordinator Paula Mohr (State of Iowa Cultural Affairs and SHPO), and Foundation Board member Kristine Pope.
