The Class of 2017 will help the human race “encounter a new kind of spirit,” said graduate Logan Murray, who was chosen to give the student address at Sunday’s commencement.

The seniors chose for their faculty speaker the VSHS art teacher Ann Diedrichsen, who told the students to compare their lives to art that is not finished yet. She encouraged them to remember that although it may not be clear to others, they know what their life vision is, and how they will work to accomplish it.

Along with the graduates, the ceremony honored VS retirees, including two of its longest-serving teachers ever, Don Lyle and Herb McNeill.
