Nearly 100 people had voted by 10 a.m. in the basement of the Benton County Courthouse, where the residents of the rural areas (Eden, Harrison and Taylor Township) vote during general elections.

That number, as well as the number of absentee ballots requested this election, tops that of the last mid-term election in 2014.

The Benton County Auditor’s Office reported at 9 a.m. on Monday the total number of absentee ballots requested was 3,386. In 2014, the last mid-term election, 2,748 residents voted early. There more than 18,000 registered voters in Benton County.

Polls remain open through 9 p.m. tonight.
