After consulting with architects following the February fire, Robert Fischer determined that his goal of saving the facade of the Fischer law office building was not possible. After removing a few parts of the facade for possible use in a future building, the Fischers watched as crews from Pickering Backhoe tore it down on Tuesday.

John Fischer spent a few moments looking over the rubble, hoping to see familiar items he has not seen since the February fire destroyed the Fischer building as well as Clingman Pharmacy and the Michael & Dowd furniture store. Parts of the building were off-limits because of safety concerns.

Linda Fischer said her husband, Robert, had spoken to architects about trying to save the facade, but the damage from the fire was too severe.

The Fischers continue to consider their rebuilding options. Linda, who shared with Vinton Today the photo of the backhoe, said the demolition process was quick.
