Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity is partnering with Thrivent Financial and others to bring “A Brush with Kindness” (ABWK) exterior painting and repair program to Vinton. Joining in this effort is AmeriCorps Cedar 6 Team, seven young people from various states along the East Coast who are age 20-24.

In addition to Thrivent Financial, the local effort is being supported by Farmers Savings Bank and Trust, Monkeytown, McDowells, Karr Septic Service, Kurt’s Enterprises, and Clickstop. These businesses have made donations and/or provided their services at reduced prices. With the goal of investing in up to a dozen owner-occupied properties in and around Vinton, we are calling on area homeowners, businesses, churches, community groups and individual volunteers to join the effort to give a “hand up” to the community.

The Cedar 6 team is well on it’s way to finishing the first couple of projects on the schedule but volunteers are welcome any time – especially the last week in June which is being planned as our Blitz Week. What better way to support our community during Party in the Park week than to volunteer to fix up, clean up, and paint identified properties? Help us make it a reality!

For an application for your property to be included in ABWK or to volunteer yourself or your group please call the local site supervisors, Mike Timmermans at 319-640-6433 or Robert Parker, 515-240-5810. You can also contact the Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity office at 319-366-4485.
