The old adage of “no news is good news” seems applicable lately. The Braille School Committee continues to evaluate opportunities and risks of the various options regarding ownership of the IBSSS property. With the support of the Vinton City Council, the committee prepared an RFP (Request for Proposal) to seek outside interest in any or all portions of the property. We are eagerly awaiting the final proposals which are due in May. The results of this RFP process will be one more tool for the Vinton City Council to use to help determine if it is feasible for the City to take ownership of the campus.
We are also eagerly awaiting news from Des Moines regarding our presentation to the Transportation, Infrastructure and Capitals subcommittee, which is vice chaired by Senator Tim Kapucian. We know Old Main is a very large and important part of this project so trying to put Old Main on a path of sustainability is vital.
I expected a number of developments in the upcoming weeks. We will do our best to keep everyone updated as necessary.
