The Urbana 5 — the five young people who perished together in a tragic traffic accident on April 9 of 2015 — will be remembered again this weekend at the Benton County Speedway, for their personality, their humor, and their love of racing.

The Urbana 5 will also be recognized for the countless lives they touched after their deaths via the organ and tissue donor program.

The Iowa Donor Network is a title sponsor of the event, which includes a $1,5000 payout for the winner of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods feature.

Several area businesses made donations to the event in honor of the 5. (See the most recently updated list below.)

IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers will race for $500 to win and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock drivers for $400. IMCA Late Models will complete the sanctioned portion of the program.

All applicable points, including track, will be awarded in all divisions and the Modified feature is a qualifying event for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.

Gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $25 and there are no entry fees.

Prizes will be given to fans and the Iowa Donor Network will have a booth where potential tissue donors can sign up. The Iowa Donor Network receives half the proceeds of the evening’s 50/50 drawing.

Urbana 5 merchandise will be available and sales will help fund five $500 scholarships, three to graduates of Center Point-Urbana High School and two to graduates of Vinton-Shellsburg.

The Modified winner receives a new wrap from Colby Heishman, who also gives $100 gift cards to the Modified, Northern SportMod, Stock Car and Hobby Stock hard chargers.

Other businesses and individuals donating cash and contingencies include Airbrushing by Liz, Brendan and Lisa Rule, Brian Vogt, Chad Kauten with local Vizion, Clingman Pharmacy, Coots Materials, Dakoda Sellers, David Neas, El Paraiso, IMCA, Justin, Jessie and Hayden Hicks, Kevin Haefner Construction, Koop’s Automotive, LaGrange Pharmacy, Lori Ballard, Lucas Lundry, Making Waves Salon, Mickey’s, Nature’s Corner, Ozone Bar, Pearl Street Social Club, Pizza Ranch, Precision Ink and Graphics, Q Dogs in Cedar Rapids, Ray Lough, Rooster Detailing, Rule’s Handyman Services, Ryan Gibson, Shopko in Vinton, Spaw Chassis, Storm Steel, Tharp Design, The Pizza Place, Unity Point Clinic in Vinton and Shellsburg, Veronica Anne Photography, Viking Sewing Center, Vinton Country Club, Wayne’s Repair and Zero One Shocks.
