VINTON – Charles Edward Craddock, 88, died Friday, March 16, 2018, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home with Dr. Darran J. Whiting officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, with military rites performed by U.S. Marine Corps Funeral Honors.

Charles was born April 19, 1929, in Garrison, Iowa, the son of William “Billie” and Tressa Parker Craddock. He was a 1947 graduate of Garrison High School.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1951 until 1953.

On January 1, 1952, Charles was united in marriage with Mary Katherine Hartgrave in North Carolina. She preceded him in death on May 21, 1994.

Charles was a self-employed truck driver and heavy equipment operator.

He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Marion. He enjoyed listening to country music and loved spending time with family and friends. He was a good, honest, hard-working man.

Charles is survived by his children: Sandy (Kevin) Wright of Rocky Mount, NC; Roger (Val) Craddock of Marion; Chuck (Jennifer) Craddock of Sheboygan, WI; and Karon (Jerry) Ahrenstein of Vinton; one sister, Mary “Lori” Rommann of Vinton; 9 grandchildren: Kirk (Sharon) and Chad (Lisa) Wright, Jeremy (Alesha) and Christopher (Lisa) Staab, Jennifer (Andy Lee) Sethi, Angela and Jesse Ahrenstein, and Charlie and Gabriel Craddock; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; children, Ronald Craddock and Charlene Staab; and siblings, Irene Hopper, Florence Willer and George, Dean, Robert and Wayne Craddock.

A memorial fund has been established.
