ATKINS:  Eldon Stueck, age 84, died Sunday, April1, 2018 at St. Luke’s Inpatient Hospice following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, April 6, 2018 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating.  Interment will be held at St. Stephens Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Adolph H. Schueller American Legion Post #217 of Atkins and Iowa Military Honors. Friends may call from 4 until 7pm Thursday at the St. Stephens Lutheran Fellowship Hall in Atkins.  A memorial fund has been established for St. Stephens Lutheran Church.

Eldon was born on October 16, 1933 in Van Horne, the son of Ernst and Katharine (Wieditz) Stueck.  He graduated from Van Horne High School with the class of 1953.  On November 29, 1959, he was united in marriage to Earlene Knapp at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne.  Eldon served his country in the United States Army from 1954 through 1956, stationed in Korea.  He was a lifetime farmer in the Atkins area, where he was an active member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church.  He served the church as an elder and trustee.  Eldon served on several different boards, including the Linn Coop, Benton Mutual, Atkins Telephone Company, Freemont township trustee, the Benton county extension and was a also a life member of the Adolph H. Schueller American Legion Post #217.  His main hobby was answering any question he might be asked….and taking the time to know the correct answer.  Earlene referred to him as her 2 legged Google.

He is survived by his wife Earlene of Atkins; his children, Allen (Connie) Stueck of Atkins, Andrea (Kevin) Nolan of Van Horne, Angela (Mark) Sturtz of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Danielle Rouse, Brianna Cannady, Katie McNamara, Brent Stueck, Olivia Nolan, Erin Horst, Jesse Sturtz and Jake Sturtz; and five great grandchildren, Gabe Rouse, Kamden Rouse, Landon Rouse Graham Cannady and Nolan McNamara.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Lorenz (Hulda) Stueck and his sister-in-law Arlene Johnson.
