VINTON: Gale M. Barkdoll of Vinton died Sunday, November 19, 2017 at his home in Vinton following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton with Rev. Mike Ferguson officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Gale was born October 7, 1934 to Gerald and Isabelle (Arthur) Barkdoll in Garrison. He drove a gravel truck; worked as a painter for Clayton Henry; operated Cactus Cash Pawn Shop in Arizona for Phil and Linda Barkdoll and painted houses with Bill Daley before going to work for the Omaha Housing Authority for many years. When he returned to Vinton he operated a salvage yard for more than ten years.
Gale was united in marriage to Mary McNeal on June 27, 1992. He loved fishing and spending time on the Cedar River, golfing, going to the casino and playing blackjack and working on the backhoe.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Vinton; sister, Leah Mae Peterson of Dysart; his brothers, Donald (Maggie) Barkdoll of Phoenix, Arizona, Phil (Linda) Barkdoll of Vinton, Al (Jan) Barkdoll of Omaha, Nebraska, and Gino (Leda) Barkdoll of Scottsdale, Arizona; his mother-in-law, Lola McNeal of Vinton; his brothers-in-law, Darryl (Glenna) McNeal and David (Karen) McNeal all of Vinton; his half sister-in-law, Marge Lahue of Vinton; his half brother-in-law, Dean McNeal of Garrison and Arlie McNeal of Shenandoah; many nieces and nephews and his three children, Gaylene, Craig and Rick.
Gayle was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Buresh; his brothers, Art Huebner, Karl, Jerry, Richard and Robert “Bobby” Barkdoll and his father-in-law, Harvey T. McNeal.
