VINTON – Janet Elwick, 98, died Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Windsor Manor.

A Celebration of Janet’s Life will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Vinton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until service time. Janet deeded her body to the University of Iowa for scientific research.

Janet was born May 29, 1920, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of S. G. “Boler” and Florence “Flossie” Taylor Bolenbaugh. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1937. Following graduation, Janet worked for a local veterinarian and at J.C. Penney’s.

On January 14, 1939, Janet was united in marriage with Keith D. Elwick in Kahoka, Missouri. The couple farmed together in the Vinton area. In later years, they enjoyed traveling the world, wintering in Naples, Florida, and the Caribbean island of Bequia. In January of 2018, this devoted, loving couple celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary.

Janet was a long-time, active member of Vinton Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing cards, particularly Bridge, golfing, swimming, fishing, gardening, cooking, reading mysteries, completing crossword puzzles and needlework. She also enjoyed journaling and chronicled most of her life. The most important aspect of her life was family, and she especially loved spending time with them at their cabin in Guttenberg.

Janet is survived by her husband, Keith Elwick, of Vinton; her children: Jean (Don) Lewis, Mike (Cindy) Elwick, John (Pauline) Elwick and Kathy (Jerry) Blank, all of Vinton; one sister, Ruth Dulin, of Vinton; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and foreign exchange students and special friends, Tony Briceno of Costa Rica and Daisy “Dolly” Davy of Boynton Beach, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Orlando “Buzz” Bolenbaugh and Mary Bolenbaugh.
