VINTON: Karen C. (Schulte) Martin, age 66, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart with her twin sister by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton with Chaplain Dwayne Potter officiating. Military rites will be held at the conclusion of the service, conducted by the AMVETS post #218 and the Walter J. Meyocks American Legion post #264 of Urbana. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the VFW Auxiliary 8884 of Benton County.
Karen was born on January 13, 1951 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Grover Clayton and June Lucille (Jasin) Schulte. She graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in education and earth sciences from Defiance College in Defiance, OH. Karen served her Country in the U.S. Army from 1978 – 1980. She married Donald Lee Martin on December 18, 1983 at the Vinton Presbyterian Church. Karen worked as a CNA in Ohio and prior to her retirement at Rock Ridge Care Center in Shellsburg.
She is survived by two sisters, her twin Sharen Schulte of Dysart and Cheryl Gregor of Montpelier, OH and seven nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband Donald, she was preceded in death by her brother Grover Alexander Schulte in 1999.
