VINTON – Michael E. “Mike” Covington, 62, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at his residence following a long illness.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home, Vinton. Private family committal services will be held.

Mike was born September 26, 1955, in Mountain View, California, the son of Norman Eugene and Reita Sandhagen Covington. He attended school in Orange County, California.

On May 22, 1987, Mike was united in marriage with Pamela Gayle Neuendorf in Vinton, Iowa.

Mike worked as a truck driver and as the service manager for several area dealerships before starting his own business. Mike’s Service opened in Vinton in 2009 and was sold upon Mike’s retirement in July of 2017.

Mike loved the outdoors and could be found riding his Harley, golfing, pheasant hunting, boating and camping. Indoors, he was watching 49ers football.

Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pam, of Vinton; son Rod (Tammy) Hepker of Vinton; step-daughter Rhonda (Rick Mahoney) Hepker of Griswold; brother David Covington of Hawaii; sister Kris Whisenhunt of Cedar Rapids; and five grandchildren: Aspen, Jesse, Aurora, Zach and Jimmy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tom Covington.

A memorial fund has been established.
