Mildred B. McElroy, 90, died Saturday, May 05, 2018 at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Visitation will be 6 to 7 pm Tuesday, May 8 at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 9 at the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford, Iowa, with Rev. Dennis Burns officiating.
Mildred was born November 3, 1927, in Rockford, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Minnie Larson Meader. She grew up in Rockford and graduated from Rockford High School. On December 29, 1946 she married Charles McElroy in Rockford. Mildred was a bookkeeper at the local elevator, a librarian and owned her own antique and craft business. She enjoyed writing poetry, buying and selling antiques and was renowned for her pie baking.
She is survived by her husband, Charles, Vinton; sons, Melvin (Christine) McElroy, Richland, WA and Russell (Marcia) McElroy, Sandy, OR; daughters, Susan (Donivan) Anderson, Dubuque, and Beth Ann (Thomas) Weigand, Shellsburg; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and her sister.
