Nathan Orie Beck Sr.
Nathan Orie Beck Sr., 86, of Belle Plaine, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service in Belle Plaine with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rector Cemetery with military honors.

Nathan Orie was born Aug. 28, 1931, in rural Belle Plaine, to Orie Winfield and Rosa Elizabeth (Klenk) Beck. He attended country school in Tama County. Following school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a proud member of the 79th Engineer C Company 10th Corps 8th Army. After returning from Korea, he was married to La Donna Kupelper in 1953. To this union, five children were born. They later separated. In 1963, Nathan married Mary Stull. To this union, three children were born.
Nathan worked at Amana Refrigeration for 20 years. He always kept himself busy with all his different side jobs, from farming to working at the local lumber yard, to carpentry work. He enjoyed playing with his garden tractors and spending time with family. Nathan was a member of the Belle Plaine American Legion Post 39. 79th Engineers and the Chosen Few.
He is survived by his children, Danny (Lana) Beck of Chelsea, Vickie (Bob) Bos of Cedar Rapids, James (Brandi) Beck of Belle Plaine, Theresa (Scott) Rosenberger of Tama, Nathan “Sam” Beck of Belle Plaine, Kevin (Tracy) Beck of Kearney, Mo., Angie (Jim) Marks of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Rod (Mary) Atchison of Kansas City, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Martha Strong, Albert Beck and Gertrude McElroy, all of Belle Plaine; good friend, Donna Moore of Blairstown; and many nieces and nephews.
Nathan was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy Beck; and siblings, Louise Jacobi, Charles Beck, Dale Beck and John Beck.
