SHELLSBURG: Richard “Dick” Cottrell, 60 of Shellsburg died Thursday, December 22, 2016 at his home following complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Phillips Funeral Homes – Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Richard Dale Cottrell was born March 1, 1956 at Cedar Rapids the son of Louis and Mary Ellen (Wendt) Cottrell in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Shellsburg High School. On February 14, 1985, Dick was united in marriage to Lisa Burt in Palo.
Dick was a Harley Davidson mechanic and later worked for Gardemann Excavating. He loved to ride his motorcycles, work on his Chevy’s and tinker in his shop. Dick would always make time to have a beer and visit with his friends. He loved and spoiled his dog, Speck.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa; son, Tony; brother, Mike (Irma) Cottrell; sister, Becky (Mike) Robinson and nephew, Tommy Robinson all of Shellsburg; his mother-in-law, Kathy (Tom) Houlahan and father-in-law, Melvin (Doris) Burt all of Cedar Rapids; his sister-in-law, Linda Reynolds of Marion; nephew, Nathan Reynolds of Cedar Rapids; his beloved dog, Speck and very special friends, John and Melea Merchant of Vinton.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Patrick Robinson.
