VINTON – Verna Mae Delaney, 89, died Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart.

Verna’s wish was to be cremated and her ashes scattered.

Verna was born May 23, 1928, in South Dakota and attended private school in Kansas.

Verna married Jack W. Delaney in New York City on Valentine’s Day.

Verna was hired as a nursing assistant at Virginia Gay Hospital in 1969. In 1978, she completed her course work for Certified Nursing Assistant and was promoted to CNA. She retired from Virginia Gay Hospital in 1998.

Verna enjoyed walking around Vinton and doing her shopping at local stores. She also enjoyed waterskiing and cooking, and she particularly liked T-bone steak.

Verna is survived by her children, John Delaney and Karen Delaney, both of Vinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jack.

A memorial fund has been established.
