Max Vasquez smiles as he crosses the goal line; he scored 5 TDs in Friday’s game.

Fresh/Soph captains walk to midfield for the pre-game coin toss.

Max Vasquez had an epic night Friday, scoring five touchdowns, and two 2-point conversions. He also intercepted three passes, returning one for a TD late in the game to end an Oelwein drive and put the Viking freshman-sophomore football team ahead by two touchdowns.

Vasquez scored 34 of the Vikings’ points in the 48-28 win.

Ray Goad, one of the team’s big linemen, accounted for several tackles, despite being double-teamed on many plays by Oelwein offensive linemen, and also blocked a PAT kick attempt and recovered a fumble.

The game began with a kick-off return for a TD by sophomore Cordell Sparks.

The Vikings led 14-0, before committing some turn-overs that helped Oelwein tie the game at 14.

“We had some good things, and some things to work on,” says Coach Anthony Church.
