Connor Miracle’s triple drove in two runs to give the Vikings the lead in a 4-3 victory over S. Tama.

A two-run RBI by Connor Miracle gave the Vikings a come-from behind win against South Tama on Monday evening, as the Vikings won the first of two at home against the Trojans. In the second game, the Vikings scored in double digits for the 8th time this season, winning 16-1 in four innings.

Coach Jim Struve provided the following summaries:
Game #1 vs. South Tama

Vikings win 4-3 in dramatic fashion over South Tama in Game 1 of their double header at Viking field. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th inning, Scottie Wirth hit a single up the middle and Cole Overton got hit by pitch to put the winning run on 1st base.  Conner Miracle steps to the plate and laces a 2 RBI triple down the right field line for the eventual game winning hit.  Miracle was 3 for 3 recording a double, triple and 2 RBI’s and Tanner Davis added 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Scottie Wirth pitched 7 solid innings for a complete game.

Game #2 vs. South Tama

Vikings got their offense going in the 2nd game winning 16-1 in 4 innings.  Will Edwards, Tanner Davis, Jared Thompson, and Scottie Wirth each had a double and 2 hits a piece with Thompson adding a triple, and 3 RBI’s and Davis adding 4 RBI’s.  Nathan Struve allowed only 4 hits and had 9 strikeouts in 4 innings of work.

Vikings are 9-0 and their next double header is Wednesday at Solon. The only other undefeated team in Class 3A is Harlan.

The Vikings lead the entire state (all classes) in runs scored, with 126 after just nine games. Their 121 hits puts them second in all of Iowa behind Davenport Assumption’s 126. They also lead the state in batting average (.442), and are second to Harlan with an on base percentage of .530.
