Three years ago, Rachel Tandy accompanied her sister, Lauren, to the State Golf Tournament where the Lauren competed in the Class 3A tournament and finished in 11th place.

This year, Rachel finished her senior season with a fifth place finish, as Lauren, a 2016 VS graduate, joined parents Scott and Melissa in the audience. Rachel tied with Alyssa Kruger of Perry for 5th place with a two-day, 36-hole score of 80-82-162.

“Those were Rachel’s two best rounds ever,” say Melissa.

Finishing in third and fourth place were the Nacos siblings, Sara (158) and Anna (159) of Washington, Iowa. The winner was sophomore Baylor recruit Britta Snyder of Gilbert, whose 142 was 13 strokes better than second-place finisher Anna Jensen of Dubuque Wahlert.

After the first day of action, Coach Janet Woodhouse summarized Rachel’s day of “hot golf on a hot day.”

“Rachel shot 39-41 for a total of 80. She is currently tied in 5th place in 3A.  Ms Tandy had all pars and bogies except one hole; and she hit all fairways except one. She birdied #11,” says the Coach.

Melissa Tandy said the whole Tandy family will miss the high school golf experience now that Rachel has graduated. The four have been participating in or watching high school golf for the past six seasons.

“We will miss it a lot,” she says. “We are very proud of both of them, and incredibly thankful for what the game of golf has given us and taught us — memories to cherish and many life lessons which have made us all stronger and better people.”
